FSSAI Registration

FSSAI, or the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, is a regulatory body established to ensure food safety and hygiene in the country. The FSSAI Food License, often referred to as FOSCos (Food Safety Compliance System), is a mandatory certification for food businesses operating in India. This license is crucial for anyone involved in the production, processing, packaging, storage, distribution, or sale of food products.

The FSSAI license is categorized into three types based on the scale of the business:

  1. Basic Registration: For small businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh.
  2. State License: – For medium-sized businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
  3. Central License: – For large businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crore or those operating in multiple states.

Obtaining an FSSAI license involves submitting an application along with necessary documents, such as proof of identity, address, and details of the food business. The application is reviewed by the FSSAI, and upon approval, the business receives a unique FSSAI registration number, which must be displayed on food packaging.

Compliance with FSSAI regulations ensures that food products are safe for consumption, thereby protecting public health. It also enhances consumer trust and opens up market opportunities for businesses. Non-compliance can lead to penalties, including fines and closure of the business. Thus, acquiring an FSSAI license is essential for any food-related enterprise in India.
